Kayak and raft along the huge Vjosa, Europe's only truly wild river - a unique and biodiverse habitat. Explore the sacred Tomorr Mountains on secluded paths with spectacular scenery and hospitable villages. See the Osumi Canyon's green natural marvel, swimming in natural pools and waterfalls along the way.
Day 1 Albania
Your host will take you up at Tirana Airport or in the center of Tirana, then drive south for about an hour and a half to reach Berat, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This evening, over a traditional Albanian meal, visit the medieval castle and get to know your trip partners.
Day 2 Investigate the mystical Tomorr Mountains.
Hiking - 6hrs · 16km
Explore the lonely highlands of Albania in off-road vehicles. They are fundamental to Albanian folklore and have great spiritual significance. Hike through one of Europe's few natural wolf and bear sanctuaries, pausing in a small settlement for lunch. Enjoy views of Mount Tomori, one of the country's most beautiful mountains, before relaxing with wine tasting at a nearby winery.
DAY 3 Vjosa River Kayaking
Kayaking - 2.5 hours · 8km
Take another scenic car trip into Albania's rural interior to Klcyr Gorge for a truly unforgettable kayaking excursion on Europe's last wild river. Paddle a gorgeous and tranquil length of the Vjosa's turquoise waters before returning to the 4WD and heading to Permet for lunch, then relaxation at Benja's thermal spas.
DAY 4 Vjosa River Rafting
Rafting - 2.5 hrs
On a morning rafting experience, you'll battle Class 3 rapids through stunning mountain scenery and see more of the incredible Vjosa River, which is about to be designated as a protected National Park. Later, you'll drive across rocky terrain to the lush Osumi Canyon settlement of Corovoda.
Day 5 Osumi Canyon
Hiking - 2.5 hrs
Enter Osumi Canyon, one of Europe's most magnificent natural wonders. You'll either river walk or raft along the Osum River (depending on the time of year and water level; please see the FAQ below for further details). There will be many opportunities to go wild swimming while surrounded by the canyon's unique ecosystem, which remains lush and green all year. You'll return to Berat after lunch at Corovoda.
DAY 6 The Pellumbas Cave
Hiking - 1.5hrs
Begin your journey back to Tirana by leaving gorgeous Berat. You'll pause to descend into the mysterious Pellumbas cave, 360m deep filled with gigantic stalagmites and dripping stalactites (look out for low-flying bats!). You'll return to Tirana to travel home after lunch in one of the surrounding villages.
